Mark Lyall Grant calls on President

ISLAMABAD: Director General for Political Affairs UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office Mark Lyall Grant called on President Asif Ali Zardari here at the Presidency on Tuesday. During the meeting matters regarding to bilateral relations between the two countries, the measures taken for the relief and rehabilitation of displaced people and the reconstruction process in war-torn areas of Swat and Malakand were discussed. President Zardari appreciated the support of British government for the relief and rehabilitation of the IDPs and said that with the help of international assistance and mobilizing indigenous resources Pakistan will undertake the process of reconstruction in Swat and Malakand. Matters pertaining to the comprehensive stabilization and socio-economic development strategy for Malakand being finalized were also discussed. The plan will be presented in the Foreign Minister's conference of Friends of Democratic Pakistan's (FODP) meeting to be held in Turkey later this month before being taken up in the summit meeting of FODP in New York next month. The President said that the two countries enjoy close relations and stressed for further enhancing political and trade ties between the two countries. Mark Lyall Grant assured support of his government in the relief and rehabilitation of the displaced people and hailed Pakistan's role in the war against extremism and terrorism.
